Write Your Legislators and Tell Them to Vote Yes on the CRA

At the end of 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency granted California a waiver to set its own vehicle emissions standards.

California’s standards include a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate known as Advanced Clean Cars (ACCII). 11 other states (MA, NY, OR, VT, WA, CO, DE, MD, NJ, NM, and RI) and D.C. follow and represent 40% of the new car market.

ACCII requires 35% of all new model year 2026 vehicle sales be ZEVs. The required percentage will increase each year until 2035, when 100% of new passenger vehicles, trucks, and SUVs sold in California and adopting states must be zero-emission.

Toyota opposes the ZEV mandate that is the result of this waiver and we’re asking for your help.

Why? The California ZEV mandate raises costs of ALL vehicles. EVs are more expensive than hybrids and ICE vehicles, but the mandate means there will be a shrinking pool of ICE and hybrids available to the consumer. Customers will hold onto older, less fuel-efficient vehicles for longer instead of buying new, more efficient models.

Congress now has an important opportunity to stop this unrealistic ZEV mandate.

If passed, this will prevent this mandate from taking effect – protecting consumer choice and ensuring that customers can buy the vehicle that meets their needs, while still reducing emissions.

Thank you for your critical and timely support on this important issue.
